About Us

Owner Feng Jianwen’s mission is to bring proper Yunnan food to Shanghai, along with as big a selection of beer as humanly possible. Feng was born in Mengzi in Yunnan province, not far from the border with Vietnam, and all Southern Barbarian’s chefs also come from his hometown. That means Southern Barbarian’s food is unique in Shanghai for its fresh, herby flavours and the charcoal barbeque bar. We can cater to large parties, and we also have a lounge upstairs with comfy red velvet sofas, the perfect location for private parties for people who want to eat great food and drink fantastic beer in comfort.
